As I said in this post yesterday, the Beeb, Russell Brand, and Jonathan Ross are in a bit of bother after the antics on Brand’s Radio 2 show last week.
I’ll spare you the story as it’s mentioned in the other blog post, but it has been announced today that Ofcom, the media regulator are launching a full investigation into how this show managed to be broadcast with abusive phonecalls and bad language, especially as it was pre-recorded and signed off by a BBC executive.
Ofcom said all broadcasters must stick to its broadcasting code, which sets standards for the content of TV and radio programmes in the UK… So this means that the BBC could be facing large fines.
Not to mention that abusive phonecalls are a criminal offense, and one with a maximum penalty of 6 months in prison. Why has nothing been done to reprimand Brand and Ross, two of the BBC’s highest paid stars, and two of their biggest role-models for a younger generation?
Maybe the BBC are scared that their Radio listening figures will fall even further now that this has happened… Time for a rethink?

I’ve been looking at this too. I’m comparing what’s happened to the BBC as a DDoS attack. The thing is, I don’t think this will hurt Ross or Brand at all. They are both gaining publicity. It’s the BBC who will be hurt.
